In data visualization, one of the most critical considerations for designers is that of color. Previous research has shown that language can affect how colors are named and perceived in specific instances. While some work has been done on collecting color names in English and unwritten languages, many common languages have not had their color naming formally cataloged. We ran a pilot study for collecting color names in different languages and collected sufficient data for a preliminary analysis of English and Korean. We found differences in how these languages name colors, particularly in the blues, and we lay the groundwork for collecting a larger range of colors and languages in the future.
